Maybe they figure that just because it’s the end of the world, that’s no excuse for not helping the planet.

Some obvious answers that spring to mind:

1) To impress the ladies.
2) To impress other guys.
3) Their meals are few and far between, but large, and need to be subdued.

For the usefulness of math, I want to add that it allows you to answer questions like “is my credit card company screwing me over?” and “should I buy this car, or lease it? And if I buy it, should I finance it, or buy it outright?”

As for music, I think Tom Weller put it best:

Wow, that’s unreal! Looks like they were getting prepared for it by raising their wipers so they wouldn’t be frozen to the glass. Florida can be hot in the summer, but at times like this, I’m glad to be down here.

Yeah, US street signs can sometimes read like novels.

That always throws me when I drive in Europe: everything’s symbolic. So I’ll be driving along, and I come across a complicated sign, but instead of having to read a paragraph of explanations, there’s just a handful of symbols, and in a flash of gestalt I know that three-axled vehicles over 0.8 tons may not turn right between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Maundy Tuesday. But my brain thinks that understanding all that should take at least 15 seconds, so I have to wait for it to catch up.
